Mr. Ensign Washington Riddle, Jr., age 81, of 952 Highway 280 West, Plains, Georgia, died February 19, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Riddle was born March 21, 1928 in Fitzgerald, Georgia, the son of Ensign Washington Riddle, Sr. and Irma Leslie Summers Riddle. Mr. Riddle was a retired Plumber and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard for twelve years. He had many friends at Shiver Lumber Company, Carson Brother Tractor Company and Jimmy Underwood Contracting. A private service will be held for Mr. Riddle. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Georgia 31709. Survivors include his children; Anne Middlebrooks, Gerald and Susie Varnum, Roy and Mae Varnum, Jimmy Varnum and Charlotte and Victor Roach, all of Americus; a sister; Irma Greathouse of Thomaston; and number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Varnum Riddle; and three sisters Jean Taylor, Myra Smith and Mary Pope who died on February 9, 2010.
