Obituary

Elma Lucille Carter, age 90, of 2001 S. Lee St. Rd, Americus, died Monday, October 4, 2010, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Webster County, Mrs. Carter was born June 8, 1920, the daughter of the late Thomas Richard and Maude Watson Sanders. She was a former employee of Manhatten Shirt Co. and a member of First Baptist Church of Americus. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Steven Golden officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, 2001 S. Lee St. Rd., Americus, Ga. 31709 or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter Co., P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-laws, Kay and Freddy Athon of Americus, Mary Ann Cox of Austell, Carol and Jacky Smith of Richland and Janice and Bob Watson of Jacksonville, Fl.; a son, Tommy Carter of Andersonville; a brother, Dick Sanders of Plains; five grandchildren, Christopher and Rebecca Cox, Corbitt and Rod Polk, Brian and Natasha Athon, Lesley Smith and A.J. Smith; three great grandchildren, Addie and Malena Polk and Brandt Athon. Memorials: League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor Nursing Center, 2001 S. Lee St. Rd., Americus, Ga. 31709 or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter Co., P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709.
