Elizabeth "Betty" Stewart Shattles, age 78, of 1117 Ga Hwy 27 E., died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Americus, she was born January 31, 1936, the daughter of the late Ralph Douglas and Elizabeth Hogg Stewart. Mrs. Shattles was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and she was active in Community Service Ministry. She was a retired Clerk of Superior Court of Sumter County after serving twenty years and was a member of the retired Clerks Association. Mrs. Shattles also volunteered for The Rylander Theatre as an usher. Graveside services will be held Friday, November 7, 2014, at 10:00 AM at Andersonville National Cemetery with Rev. Danny Loffredo officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Southland Academy Raider Club, 123 Southland Rd., Americus, Ga 31709. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, George W. Shattles, Jr. (Billy) and Amy of Americus, Michael W. Shattles and Dawn of Americus, and Edward w. Shattles and Trina of Americus; a brother, Ralph Stewart; six grandchildren, Erin and Hunter Shattles, Dustin and Brody Shattles, and Blake and Christine Shattles all of Americus. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Shattles, Sr. Cemetery: Andersonville National Cemetery
