Douglas M. Smith, 73, of Oglethorpe passed away peacefully at his home Friday, October 9th, with his children by his side. A memorial service will be held at Stillwater Chapel 3550 GA Hwy 240 Ideal, GA 31041 on Saturday October 17, 2020 at 3:00 PM. Doug was born July 30, 1947 in Birmingham, England to the late Benjamin and Jean Smith. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Stillwater Chapel in Ideal. Doug retired from Windstream, where he worked for many years. Through his employment, he made many friends and never met a stranger. He would talk to anyone and was always willing to help those in need. Doug is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Debby Smith, of Oglethorpe; two children: Paul Smith and his wife Sabrina, and Jennifer Howell, all of Oglethorpe; two brothers and sisters-in-law: David and Theresa Smith of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada, and Keith and Deidra Smith of St. Petersburg, FL. In addition, he is survived by his three wonderful grandchildren: Paul Douglas Smith, Jr. "P.J." of Oglethorpe, Michael Dewayne Howell, Jr. and Katelyn Grace Howell, both of Wisconsin.
