Dennis Edwin Tanner passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 67.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18, 2026 in the Chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
Beyond the dates and milestones of his life, Dennis does leave behind old memories of joy he brought to those around him. He was quick-witted, endlessly funny, and never passed up an opportunity to tell a joke or make someone laugh. His sense of humor, together with his kind heart and support, made him not only a great father but also a trusted friend to his children.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and was happiest when surrounded by nature. Some of his favorite moments were the simpler things like fishing with his brothers. He enjoyed exploring new places, searching for arrowheads, or capturing moments through photography and videography. A gifted sportsman and passionate arrowhead hunter, he had an uncanny ability to spot arrowheads from a moving car, a talent that family and friends often joked was nothing short of a superpower.
A graduate of Americus High School, Class of 1977, he built a life centered on the people he loved. In later years, one of his favorite pastimes was catching up with family and friends over the phone. No conversation ever lacked a story, a joke, or just simple words of encouragement.
He was a devoted and loving father whose children always knew they were supported, encouraged, and deeply loved. The lessons he taught, the adventures he shared, and the laughter he created will remain treasured memories for all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Jonathon Tanner and Alexandra “Alex” Tanner; his brothers, Mark Tanner and Eric Tanner; his nieces, Amelie Tanner Bibb and Leah Robinson; and his nephew, Zach Tanner. He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert "Jimmy" Tanner; his mother, Jacqueline Lee Heath "Evelyn"; his brother, Tommy Tanner; and his nephew, Dustin Tanner. While those left behind deeply mourn his passing, they take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with the family he loved and missed so dearly.
We like to imagine that he has already found the best fishing spot, discovered a field full of arrowheads, and is sharing a good story with everyone within earshot.
