Carl Howard Veatch, 91, of Americus, died Friday August 31, 2018 at his home. Born in Walker County to the late William and Almedia Veatch on September 14, 1926, he lived in rural Americus most of his life. He was a faithful and devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon for fifty-five years. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during WWII and was a retired farmer. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Woolsey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. And at other time at the family residence 866 Lamar Road Americus GA. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, June Veatch; three daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Jody Dupree, Carleen and Richard McCorkle, and Beth and George Kelly. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Christopher and Stephanie Dupree, Kallie and Mike Turner, Kerry and Melissa Dupree, Mystie and Walt Medlin, and Stephen Barnes; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Dupree, Lilliana Medlin, Andrew Dupree, Mia Dupree, Eastyn Turner, and Wyatt Medlin; one sister, Barbara Jean Stewart of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers are Christopher Dupree, Kerry Dupree, Stephen Barnes, Mike Turner, Walt Medlin and Jakob Hart. Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Lawrence Veatch, Dot Cook, Rev. Clayton Veatch, Dub Veatch, Alleen Zito, Lewis Veatch, Sylvia McCarty, and twin brother, Rev. Carol Veatch. Memorial contribution may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
