Carl Douglas Varnum, Sr., 57, of 293 Smokehouse Rd., Cordele, died Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Crisp Regional Hospital. He was born November 30, 1958 in Americus to James Alvin Varnum, Sr. and the late Edythe Anne Johnson Varnum. He was self-employed as a mechanic and loved to hunt and fish. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. Survivors include his three sons: Carl D. Varnum, Jr. of Cordele, John W. Varnum of Andersonville, and Michael Varnum of Warner Robins; two brothers: Alvin Varnum, Jr. and Danny Varnum, both of Americus; and two sisters: Emma Jane Rigsby of Ellaville and Sharan Polk of Americus. Also surviving are three grandchildren. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.
