Billy Monroe Varnum, Jr., 64, of Leslie died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center. A native of Sumter County, he was born August 6, 1953 to the late Billy Monroe Varnum, Sr. and Peggy Virginia Short Varnum. He was retired from the United State Army. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Andersonville National Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel in Americus. Survivors include his best friend, Shane Sharp of Cobb; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Deborah and Michael Legg of Andersonville, Faye and Ronald Hatcher of Leslie, and Jennifer and Efrem Holbrook of Preston; and a brother, Jimmy Varnum of Tampa, FL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
