Obituary

Billie Jean Pugh Cosby, age 83, of Sumter Retirement Village, formerly of Preston, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Barbour County, AL., she was born April 27, 1930, the daughter of the late Jack and Esther Ketchum Pugh, Sr. Mrs. Cosby was a member of Plains United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, 2013, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lee Smith and Laurie Hartley officiating. Burial will follow at the Preston City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 16, 2013, from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the residence of Elaine Pugh, 104 Cherry Laurel Trail, Southland Ridge, Americus. Pallbearers include Jimmy Bankston, Mike Bankston, Jamie Conger, Chuck Stewart, Bengy Conger, Bobby Pilcher and Buster Pilcher. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ann Harris, 1801 Rose Avenue, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include two sisters and a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, Vivian and Harold Bankston of Preston, Hazel Kinnett of Preston and Elaine Pugh of Americus; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Susan Pugh of Morgantown and Butch and Dianne Pugh of Andersonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Cosby; a son, Robert Terry Cosby; a sister, Jeanette Chavers; a brother, Jack Pugh; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Kinnett and Fred Chavers.
