Betty Ruth Sykes Scott, age 88, of 193 Dogwood Hills, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Saturday, December 3, 2016. A native of Americus, she was born June 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary E. Sykes. Mrs. Scott was a member of Central Baptist Church and of the Silvertones Choir at Central Baptist Church. She was happiest when she was baking and sharing her caramel cakes. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, December 5, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times 193 Dogwood Hills. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Scott Law Foundation, 205 E. Lamar St., Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Joann Law of Americus, Mary Cartwright of Americus and Bonnie and Henry E. Barfield of Americus; four grandchildren, Tracy and Lisa Law, Matt and Kristi Cartwright, Ty Cartwright and fiancé Mandi Gibby and Grady Barfield; and five great grandchildren, Lindsey Baugher, Luke Law, Landon Law, Anniston Cartwright, Camdyn Cartwright and Cason Cartwright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Scott, a daughter, Emma Johnson and a grandson, Scott Law.
