Betty Jean Salter, age 77, of Americus, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Saturday, December 16, 2017. A native of Thomasville, she was born September 23, 1940, to the late Marvin and Leila Peaster. Mrs. Salter was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She worked at Brooklyn Heights and Cheek Memorial Daycare for many years. Mrs. Salter was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Brother Clifford Braxton and Brother John Dent officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, December 18, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry St., Macon, GA 31201 or to Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 225 Second Street, E, Tifton, GA 31794. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Leon Salter of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Phillip Daniel of Americus; three sons and daughters-in-laws, Eric and Kay Salter of Andersonville, Keith Salter of Americus, and Terry and Tabitha Salter of Americus; seven grandchildren, Jeffery and Christina Salter, Scott and Misty Daniel, Marlie and Brian Reeves, Tyler Daniel, Ansley Salter, David Salter and Dustin Salter; and five great grandchildren, Madison Daniel, Hayley Daniel, Kinsley Daniel, Emerson Daniel and Reid Salter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Hurtt and three brothers, J.D. Peaster, James Peaster and Thomas Peaster.
