Betty Lee Scott, age 74, of Americus, Georgia passed away at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center on March 10, 2026, surrounded by family.
Betty Lee Bell was born in Americus on June 23, 1951 to Luther Edward Bell and Iona Graham Bell. She attended Americus High School, Georgia Southwestern College, and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. For many years, she preached at Magnolia Manor in Buena Vista, Georgia and retired as a bookkeeper and jack-of-all trades at Agrium/IMC in Americus. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, collecting, spending time with her grandchildren, and meeting friends and family for lunch at Pat’s Place. Except for a period living in Atlanta while her former husband Ronald Scott served in the GBI, Betty Lee spent her entire life in Americus, was a past president of the Junior Service League and was well-loved and respected in the community.Betty Lee was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Iona Bell, her stepmother Margaret Bell, and her siblings Iona Henderson and Luther Bell, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Meg (Chris) Usrey of Americus and Emily (Freddie) Odom of Bluffton, Ga.; her grandchildren Sam Usrey (Katie Dooley) of Decatur, Ga. and Miriam Odom of Bluffton; her sister-in-law Sandy Bell of Palm Springs, Calif; her nieces Hope Henderson of Americus, Leila Toms of Panama City, Fla., and Jordan Bell of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her nephews Jason Bell of Charlotte, N.C., David Bell of Chapel Hill, N.C., Brad Bell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Gene Henderson of Sneads Ferry, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at Lee Street Methodist Church at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2026, with the Rev. Tommy Mason officiating. Colorful attire is recommended. The family will welcome visitors in the fellowship hall prior to the service at 3:00, and following the service at the family home located on 807 South Lee Street. In lieu of flowers, Betty Lee has requested that donations be sent to the Grateful Threads quilting guild, 1102 South Lee Street, Americus Georgia, 31709.
