Mrs. Betty Ann Conklin Gorton Atherton, age 52, of 158 Cartwright Road, Ext. D, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Paterson, NJ, Mrs. Atherton was born January 11, 1961, a daughter of the late Eugene Conklin and Marlene Gould Conklin. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday November 23, 2013 in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. LeRoy Greene officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm preceding the service. Betty loved angels and was a very loving grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Louis Gorton. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Charles Atherton of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Michael (Kori) Gorton of Americus and Christopher James (April) Gorton of Portsmouth, Va.; a twin sister, Cindy Lou McCombs of Bullville, NY and two brothers, Daniel Conklin and Steven Ciemniecki both of South Carolina. Four grandchildren, John Ayden Gorton, Alexander J. Gorton, Emma Leigh Cordelia Gorton and John Charles Tatum Gorton also survive. .
