Obituary

Benjamin Joseph Kennedy, 91, of Americus, Georgia, passed away in the early morning hours of January 21, 2025. Born in Doyle (Buena Vista), Georgia, on November 28, 1933, he was the son of Bill and Sallie Kennedy, both of whom preceded him in death.

Benjamin was a graduate of high school, showcasing a lifelong dedication to learning and community service. He worked tirelessly in his younger years as a logger and truck driver. Later in life, he was the owner of Ben Kennedy Trucking Inc. He also served as a Magistrate Court Judge for Webster County. He has certainly left a legacy of hard work and integrity.

A proud Master Mason for 70 years, Benjamin served one term as Worshipful Master in his Masonic Lodge, exemplifying his leadership and commitment to the organization's values. His dedication to the fraternity and its principles of brotherhood, charity, and truth was a hallmark of his life.

Benjamin was saved at Preston Baptist Church in 1951, where he was a member for 60 years. He served as a deacon and also as Deacon Chairman for a period of time and contributed significantly to the finance and building committees along with being a trustee for many years. Faith guided his life and he became a member of Central Baptist Church where his passion for service continued, strengthening both his church and his community.

His life was filled with noteworthy achievements, including helping others and offering his unwavering support in every endeavor he undertook. His life exemplified the values of faith, family, and service.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, W.T., Grady, Johnny, and Millard, as well as his sisters, Ruby, Essie, Bessie, Bonnie, Lonnie, Gracie, and Irene.

Benjamin is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Bobbie; his son, Mark & his wife Jan; his daughter, Linda & her late husband Bobby Rogers.

Grandchildren and Great grandchildren: Scott Rogers(Jamie), Sandi Filmore(Willie), Stephen Rogers(Jennifer), Kelly Schramm(Judd), Kyle Kennedy( Lacey), Katie Rogers, Cohen Rogers, Hunter Pearce, Daveon Filmore, Hayden Rogers, Grayson Rogers, Kennedy Schramm, Laine Schramm, Keegan Kennedy, Lanier Kennedy.

Serving as pallbearers are Scott Rogers, Stephen Rogers, Kyle Kennedy, Hayden Rogers, Judd Schramm, Cohen Rogers, Hunter Pearce, and Willie Filmore. Honorary pallbearers include employees and truckers of Ben Kennedy Trucking Company Inc., as well as Steve Kennedy, Keegan Kennedy, Grayson Rogers, Tony Kennedy, Bryan Kennedy, Larry Goddard, Jimmy Foreman, Phillip Jones, and Darrel Jones.

A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 25, 2025, at Central Baptist Church, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. The service will be officiated by Pastor Bryan Myers. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Preston Baptist Church. Benjamin will be laid to rest with Masonic Rites at Preston City Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Preston, Georgia.

His family, friends, and the many lives he touched will remember him fondly as a kind, generous, and faithful man whose legacy will continue to inspire.
