Barbara Jean Hobgood, age 89, of Americus, died at Magnolia Manor Sunday, July 7, 2019. A native of Cuthbert, she was born April 23, 1930, the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Lura Hogg. Mrs. Hobgood was a homemaker and a member of Plains Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible school and sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday School at Lillian Carter Nursing Home. Mrs. Hobgood was a member of the Iris Garden Club and enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, and caring for her grandchildren and extended family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Buck Kinney officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 9:00 until 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery. Pallbearers include Joe Respess, Daniel Howell, Cameron Belcher, Randy Dillard, Lark Hobgood and Shawn Foltz. Honorary pallbearers include Darrell Hobgood, Wesley Smith, Jody Smith, Chad Smith and Lijah Hobgood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Plains Baptist Church, 301 N. Bond St., Plains, GA. 31780. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Joe Respess of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Debbie Hobgood of Americus; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Larry Dillard of Ellaville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Malcolm and Vivian Hogg of Athens, Jimmy and Donna Hogg of Social Circle and Tom and Andrea Hogg of Hilton Head, SC; four grandchildren, Erin and Daniel Howell, Lindsay and Shawn Foltz, Elisia and Ronald Ingle and Lark Hobgood; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
