Mr. Austin Doug Douglas Bendimire, age 84, of 301 Judy Lane, Americus, died at his residence Monday, November 1, 2010. A native of Uvalda, Ga., Mr. Bendimire was born August 26, 1926, the son of Austin W. and Agnes G. McAllister Bendimire. He retired from the State of Georgia Department of Transportation where he was employed as a road maintenance engineer. Mr. Bendimire was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post # 2 of Americus and an avid golfer. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev. Matt Stewart officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Mr. Bendimires nephews will serve as pall bearers. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Americus, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709. Survivors include his wife, Betty Athon Bendimire of Americus; a step-son and step daughter-in-law, Freddy and Kay Athon of Americus; a step grandson, Brian and Natasha Athon; a step great grandchild, Brant Athon and several nieces and nephews.
