Anne Howell Bagwell Simmons was born on August 17, 1925, at home at 217 Thomas Street in Plains, Georgia. She was 90 years old when she died on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Anne graduated from Plains High School after the eleventh grade, spending all of her grade school years there. Her first job was at Manhatten Shirt Company, where she worked as an inspector for 30 years. She married Millard Franklin Simmons in 1945 when he returned from World War II. After retiring from Manhatten, she opened a florist shop in Plains and enjoyed preparing beautiful floral arrangements for those in the area. The one passion in her life was her family. She loved her family more than anyone else in the world and they loved her in return. She spent most of her later life as a homemaker enjoying the pleasant small town life of a southern rural town. All who knew her admired her greatly and she will indeed be sorely missed. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Lebanon Cemetery in Plains, GA with Rev. William Stanley Ballew and Jack and Diane Holbrook officiating. The family will greet friends at the graveside following the service. The family suggests donations be made to Plains United Methodist Church, 305 West Church Street, Plains, Ga 31780. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mill and Gloria Simmons of Plains; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. James and Cindy Bagwell of Plains; three nieces, Victoria Bagwell Kelley and Travis of Americus, Peggy Howard Jordan of Marietta and Lynn Jones Hudson of Phenix City, AL; one nephew, Brad Bagwell and Betsy of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Rhett Simmons and Jessi of Americus and Paige Simmons of Macon; and one great-grandchild, Milly Simmons of Americus. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Floy Howell Bagwell and her husband, Millard Franklin Simmons.
