Anna Moraitakis Cheokas, age 91, of 113 Clearview Circle, Americus, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A native of Cordele, she was born February 6, 1924, the daughter of the late Steve and Helen Moraitakis. Mrs. Cheokas was a member of two churches, the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta and also the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Macon. She was a devout Orthodox Christian, devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Cheokas was an accomplished artist, author, poet and art instructor. She also served as a former board member of South Georgia Technical College Foundation. She was civically active in many organizations such as The Americus Arts Council, Sumter Players, the English Speaking Union Atlanta branch and also an honorary member of the Junior Service League. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Calvary Episcopal Church with Father John Stefero officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 6, 2015, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers , the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rosalynn Carter Institute, 800 GSW State University Dr., Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gaynor Cheokas of Americus; a brother, Mike Moraitakis of Atlanta; a sister, Cally Liollio of Charleston, SC; and three grandchildren, Brittany Martin, Athan Cheokas and Lexie Cheokas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Cheokas; and three brothers, George Moraitakis, Angelo Moraitakis and Victor Moraitakis.
