Obituary for William 'Doug' Sears

William “Doug” Douglas Sears, age 95, of 527 Sears Farm Rd., Richland, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at Four County Health and Rehab in Richland. A native of Webster County, he was born September 18, 1916, the son of the late William Calhoun and Belle King Sears. Mr. Sears was a member of Enterprise Baptist Church and was a Deacon and Officer of Brotherhood at Enterprise Baptist Church. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and a past member of the Lions Club. Mr. Sears served as a guard for President Roosevelt at The Little White House in Warm Springs and worked at Calloway Farms prior to the establishment of Callaway Gardens. He was an avid coon hunter and storyteller with a king size sense of humor. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Enterprise Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Orr officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Enterprise Baptist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Enterprise Baptist Church, c/o Homer Cook, 1006 Nicholson St., Richland, GA 31825. Pallbearers include Rusty Sears, Shane Gosa, Joe Obermeyer, Miles Sears, Heath Miller and Lawrence Mayo. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Lady Sears of Navasota, TX, A.T. Sears of Richland, and Roy and Lisa Sears of Ashburn; a daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Jim Murray of Lumpkin; ten grandchildren, Rebecca Cox, William Sears, LeAnn Hale, Marian Sears, Rusty Sears, Rachel Obermeyer, Carson Johnson, Miles Sears, Carrie Miller and Megan Gosa; and also thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Davis Sears.
