Obituary for Virgil Adkins

Mr. Virgil Ronald Adkins, age 83, of 253 Ga. Hwy 27 E, Americus, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at his residence. A native of Cordele, Mr. Adkins was born July 6, 1927 the son of the late Virgil Paul and Irma Kate Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a Master Sergeant serving during WW II and the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and also was a member of the VFW.
Funeral services will be held July 17, 2010, at 10:00 AM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Todd Lowery officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, July 16, 2010 at 253 Ga. Hwy 27 E., Americus, from 6 until 8 PM. Pall bearers include Brandon Miles, Ben Miles, Winn Marchbanks and Christopher Wright. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 236 Ga. Hwy. 27 E., Americus, Ga. 31709 or to Hospice of Americus, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle S. Adkins of Americus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Miles of Warner Robins, Paula Williams of Americus, Brenda and Julian Wells of Buena Vista and Lora and Jeff Wiseman of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Doris Adkins of Pearl, MS.; a sister, Wynelle Jerde of Wilmot, WI; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
