Obituary for Vicktor Heath Jones

Vicktor Heath Jones, age 91, of 2011 S. Lee St., died at Mattie Marshall Center at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home Saturday, February 9, 2013. A native of Orange County, New York, he was born December 6, 1921, the son of the late Richard Walter and Harriet Bush Jones, Jr. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a cattle breeder and farmer and was inducted into the American Polled Hereford Hall of Fame in January 1981. For many years he was a consultant for the School of Animal Husbandry at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton. Mr. Jones was a faithful and dedicated member of Leslie United Methodist Church where he served as Board Chairman, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, Church Treasurer and other areas of leadership and servant. Mr. Jones established a scholarship fund at Georgia Southwestern University in memory of his first wife, Frances Bagley Arenz Jones. Many students have been able to supplement their educational expense because of his generosity. Mr. Jones will be remembered by many as they recall him riding his bicycle down Brady Rd. or briskly walking on Lee. St. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Charlcie Cheek Jones of Americus; four daughters and sons-in-law, Vicktoria and Tad Tallmadge of Lawrenceville, NJ, Ruth Arenz and fiancé Jim West of Ellijay, Sharon and Gary Roberts of Americus and Janet and Jim Feil of Port Orange, FL; three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Judy Arenz of Loxahatchee, FL., Bill and Joyce Arenz of Port Charlotte, FL., and David and Jennifer Jessup of Knoxville, TN.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Bagley Arenz Jones; his step- mother, Jean Sage Jones; two sisters and two brothers. Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the Leslie City Cemetery with Rev. Guy Mathis and Rev. Wendy Peacock officiating. A reception will be held following the service at the fellowship hall at Leslie United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Leslie United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 116, Leslie, GA 31764 or to the charity of one’s choice.
