Obituary for Rose Ratliff

Rose Catherine Ratliff, age 84, of 129 Shaaban Subdivision Rd., Plains, died at Lillian Carter Nursing Center Tuesday, August 19, 2014. A native of Melbourne, Fl., she was born April 21, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Lena Knecht Gard. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for sixty-seven years and was a loving wife and mother. Rose was a past CCD instructor at St. Mary’s as well as a past president of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club. She also served as a chairman on the Family Services Commission. Rose was very active in the community, volunteering at the Sumter County Mental Health Association and also at the Lillian Carter Nursing Center. Rose assisted with the Red Cross Blood mobile and was a frequent donor. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 22, 2014, at 12:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Francis Gillespie, S.J. officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 21, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times, the residence of David and Ellen Ratliff, 129 Shaaban Subdivision Rd., Plains. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 332 S. Lee St., Americus, GA. 31709. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Terrie and Mike Street of Moorehead City, NC, Janet Culpepper of Panama City, FL, Patsy and Robert Gerbert of Albany, and Ruth and Steve Johnson of Longmont, CO, as well as two sons and daughter-in-law, David and Ellen Ratliff of Plains, Alan Ratliff of Andersonville; a sister, Trudy Cinque of Washington state; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers at Lillian Carter Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Henry Ratliff.
