Obituary for Ottis Lee Hickox

Ottis L.Hickox, won his battle with cancer Wednesday morning at his home in Cleveland, Ga surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Hickox was a proud member of the most decorated active duty Army Special Forces Group, The Green Berets. Living his life in accordance with the Groups motto; "Strength and Honor" and "De Oppresso Liber". Distinguished and decorated for service in Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, among many other foreign countries. Mr. Hickox received a number of Medals including, The Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, National Defense, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, Vietnam Civil Actions, Meritorious Unit Commendation to name a few.
Affectionately known to many as Chief Hickox, he also served as a dedicated Law Enforcement Officer. After retirement from the United States Army he began a career serving and protecting the lives of those in his community. Chief Hickox made an impact on many lives and set a standard for high level public service. Chief Hickox will be laid to rest Saturday Morning. Sir, Go rest high on that mountain you deserve your rest.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Brother Jack Wallace will officiate the service. Interment to follow with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2020 at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Hickox of Cleveland; two sons and daughters-in-law: David Hickox and his wife Michelle of Phenix City, AL. and Bill Hickox and his wife Sherry of Grey; a stepson Nathan Howard and his wife Gen of Griffin; step daughter, Cindy Gilbert of Griffin. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jamie Hickox, Joy Hickox, Eathan Bruce, Nathan Bruce, Sean Hickox, Ryan Hickox, Matthew, and Eathan.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice 743 Spring St. Gainesville, GA 30501.
