Obituary for Marion Mallette Smith, Jr.

Marion Mallette Smith Jr., 61, of Americus, Georgia, passed away January 28, 2013 in the Philippines. He was born June 11, 1951 in Milan, Georgia, the son of the late Marion Mallette Smith Sr. and Quinelle Hargrove Smith. He was second oldest of 4 siblings. He served as a signalman for the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1975. After his discharge from the Navy he graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Education. He worked for the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles for 18 years. He was called to preach for the United Methodist Church in 2005. He was the current pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Americus, Georgia. Mr. Smith was survived by ex-wife, Gail Smith of Alto, GA; their daughters and son-in-laws, Robert and Myriah White of Cornelia, GA; Richard and Megan Dills of Alto, GA; Grandchildren, Cameron Smith and Bryson White of Cornelia, GA; Thomas Dills of Alto, GA.; sister, Paulette Reeves of Macon, GA; brother Neal Smith of Milan, GA; and sister Shelley Tomberlin of Rhine, GA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday February 10, at Salem United Methodist Church in Americus, GA. at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Philippines Outreach Mission at the Bank of Eastman: 130 Oak St. Eastman, GA 31023.
