Obituary for Kenneth C. 'Bear' Hart, Jr.

Mr. Kenneth C. Bear Hart, Jr., age 66, of 120 OHara Rd., Americus, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A native of Americus, he was born June 10, 1944 the son of the late Kenneth C. and Edith Johnson Hart. He was an eagle scout and a member of First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Americus High School in 1962, from Georgia Southwestern State University with an Associate Degree and from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building Science. Mr. Hart was a former member of Civitan, Sumter Civic Fair Association, Sumter Cookers, a supporter of the Sherriffs Youth Home and an avid Auburn football fan. He loved riding his motorcycle, being with his grandchildren and was a railroad enthusiast.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 27, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the home of Martha and Bob Ridgway, 175 Lake Shore Dr., Americus. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Georgia Sherriffs Boys Ranch, 5671 Ga. Hwy 122 E, Hahira, GA. 31632. Honorary pall bearers include Bill Forehand, Benny Whittle, Dan Torbert, Jerry Crawley, Billy Peeples and Bill Herrin.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Cherry Hart of Americus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Alan Brown of Hoschton, Ga. and Kara Hart Ivey and Sean Saigeon of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Hart Ridgway and Bob of Americus; three grandchildren, Tyler Dickerson, Mikah Brown and Ally Saigeon and a number of nieces and nephews.
