Obituary for Irene Howard Horne

Irene Howard Horne, age 84, of 114 Sullivan Dr., died Friday, May 03, 2013, at Pine Pointe Hospice and Palliative Care in Macon. A native of Greenville, SC., she was born July 23, 1928 the daughter of the late Alvin M. and Myrtle Amah Haselton Howard. Mrs. Horne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she was adored and revered by her family. She graduated from High School in 1945 and married JWC “Billy” Horne, Jr. in 1946. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Americus where she served as the past president of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and taught Sunday School. Mrs. Horne was also a member of the Junior Service League , Green Thumb Garden Club and Beta Sigma Phi. Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Dupree and Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Private burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Honorary Pall bearers include Jimmy Carter, Sam Singer, Milton Fletcher, Lent Bridges, Bob Lashley, Jimmy Buchanan, Buzzie Smith, Dan Smith, Bobby Strange, Pal Markette, Ray Welch, Ben Methvin, Ralph Aiken, Earl Williams and Bobby McNeil. Mrs. Horne is survived by her husband of 67 years, JWC “Billy” Horne, Jr. of Americus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Will Bramlett of Ocean Springs, MS, and Angie and Brent Stanford of Macon; two sons, Will Horne of Columbus and David Horne of Phenix City, AL; seven grandchildren, Wendy and Keith Jolly of Leesburg, VA., Jarrett and Jared Jackson of Decatur, Kate Stanford of Macon, Laura Stanford of Bainbridge, Margaret Stanford of Macon, Camille Horne and Genie Horne both of Peachtree City; and three great grandchildren, Clara Jolly, Megan Jolly and Lila Grace Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alvin McNeil Howard, Jr.
