Obituary for Edward 'Ed' Faircloth, Sr.

Mr. Edward Ed Faircloth, Sr., age 84, of Cobb died on April 12, 2010, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A native of Arabi, Ga., Mr. Faircloth was born July 12, 1925, the son of the late Candler A. and Zimmie Irene Faircloth. He was a graduate of Union High School and he served as a United States Marine in WWII. He owned and farmed the Double E. Farm in Leslie until he retired in 1995. Mr. Faircloth was named the Soil Conservationist Farmer of the Year on 2 occasions and served on the Board of Directors of the Sumter Livestock Association. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his friends and family. In the later years he loved spending time with his five grandchildren who affectionately called him Beg. More recently he delighted in seeing his three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at DeSoto United Methodist Church Cemetery on April 15, 2010, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joe Bateman and Ginny West Case officiating. The family will receive friends at 148 North Spring Creek Road and will also have a visitation at 148 North Spring Creek Rd. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Honorary pallbearers are Members of the DeSoto United Methodist Church, Robert Bobby Clay, John Cook, J.A. Bubba Davis, Thad Bud Wilkinson, Jr., Jake Reese, Fritz Scarborough, Frank Joiner, Paul Shellnut, Fox Stephens, and Kenneth Morris. Memorial contributions may be made to the DeSoto United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 160, DeSoto, GA 31743 or Hospice of Americus P.O. Box 1434, Americus, Ga. 31709.

Survivors include three loving children; Ed and Ruth Faircloth, Jr. of Fort Valley, Lynn and Howard Stanford of Leslie and Lissa Faircloth of Cobb; five grandchildren, Tara Poole, Carey and Mike Soderman, Betsy and Matt Kennedy all of Perry, Julie and Brandon Mercer of Leesburg and Andy and Nikki Stanford of Cobb; three great-grandchildren, Case Poole and Payton and Baylee Soderman all of Perry and a sister, Doris Nunnie Hunt of Thomson, GA.
Mr. Faircloth was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sara Gene on Nov. 30th, 2009 and three sisters, Ellen Turner, Odell Oglesby and Essie Mae Huggy Deriso.
