Obituary for Clora Della Elliott Afinowicz

Clora Della Elliott Afinowicz, 93, passed away Tuesday April, 8th at her home in Dixie Hills. She was born April 11, 1921 to the late Willie & Esta (Wheeler) Cox in Johnson Co., KY and became a resident of Americus , GA after moving from Dunnellon , FL in 1989. Much of her life was spent caring for children of working parents and working in church nurseries, leaving her last job at the age of 80. She was a member of First Baptist Church , Americus . A little known fact about 'Miss' Della was that she worked as a Rosie the Riveter during WWII. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Monroe Elliott and Joe Afinowicz, a sister, Jewel (Cox) Arrington, and a daughter, Kay Wright Nissley, and two grandchildren, Troy Elliott and Christy Elliott Martin. Surviving are two brothers, Robert Cox (MaryAnn) of Fairborn, OH, and Rev. Raymond Cox (Eileen) of Batavia, OH; and children: Freddie Elliott (Kimberly), of Mt. Pleasant, TX; Gerry Elliott (Janice), of Juliette, GA; Bill Elliott (Kathi), of Americus, GA; Ricky Elliott (Teri), of Dunnellon, FL; and Debi Vaught (Eric), of Headland, AL. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed spending time playing games and fishing with her 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2014, at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Rev, Keith Parks and Rev. Rusty Mauldin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
