Obituary for Chip Hutchinson

Our son, husband, father and brother, Edward L Hutchinson, Jr., (Chip) left his earthly home to sit as a guard at the gates of heaven to keep it secure. He died March 6, 2014, unexpectedly in his home in Newnan, GA. Chip was born in Americus, GA, August 10, 1955, to Polly Hutchinson and the late Edward L. Hutchinson. Chip graduated from Southland Academy in 1972 and attended ABAC and Georgia Southwestern College. Early in life he developed a love for law enforcement and quickly became a member of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department at the age of 18. He began his career as a dispatcher and was promoted to Sergeant. In addition, Chip later worked at Tape Specialists in Americus while working part time for the Sumter County Coroner’s Office as a deputy and as a deputy sheriff. After moving to the Newnan area in 1997, he was once again employed as a deputy with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department and later he worked for Delta Airlines until health issues forced early retirement. Chip grew up loving the country and animals. He was a simple man with minimal wants and needs. Chip faced his many debilitating health issues with courage and dignity. He was a very brave and stoic person, a man of great integrity and loyalty. Even though he had many adversities in his life, he never gave up and remained positive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Aldridge officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 409410, Atlanta, Ga. 30384-9410; Muscular Dystrophy Association, PO Box 78960, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8960; or Georgia Sherriff’s Boy’s Ranch, 5671 Ga. Hwy 122 E, Hahira, GA. 31632. Pallbearers include Gary Parker, Bob Lightner, Pete Smith, Randy Howard, Brandon Aldridge, and Trey Aldridge. His survivors include his wife, Donna Aldridge Hutchinson of Newnan; a son Tyler Hutchinson of Newnan; a loving mother, Polly Hutchinson and a sister Sheron Hutchinson Wood, her husband Rick all of Griffin, GA; an uncle, Stephen Seymore of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother-in-law, Greg Aldridge and his wife Lecia; a mother-in-law, Carolyn Aldridge, all of Panama City, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Skip Aldridge. The family will miss our dear Chip, but know he is at peace and healthy once again.
