Obituary for Ainsworth 'Dud' Dudley Gatewood, III

Ainsworth Dudley Gatewood, III, age 88 of 413 Jones Dr., Americus, died at his residence Wednesday, April 6, 2011. A native of Americus, Mr. Gatewood was born April 8, 1922, the son of the late A.D. Gatewood, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth McLeod (Bess) Gatewood. Mr. Gatewood served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was employed in Vietnam during the conflict on a military project. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Mens Bible Class. He retired from Glover Food Service after twenty five years of service.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with Dr. Mike Flowers and Dr. David Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, April 8, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the family residence, 413 Jones Dr., Americus. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ann Harris, 1801 Rose Avenue, Americus, Ga. 31709.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rubye L. Davis Gatewood of Americus; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Dr. Albert Richert of Sulphur, LA., Jan and Dennis Whittle of Ninnekah, OK. and Beth and Harry Baker of Jesup, GA.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dudley and Mamie Gatewood of Fayetteville, GA. and Steve and Leslie Castleberry of Covington, LA.; fourteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McCleod Gatewood.
